Mystery in Whitechapel

Whitechapel, London - Late in the evening on the 30th of July, an unusual assembly was seen gathering outside a lodging house on Durward Street in Whitechapel. This group consisted of several upstanding local citizens who claimed to have received urgent calls for assistance from Professor Julius Smith of King's College London.

The well-regarded Professor guided these Good Samaritans upstairs to a dilapidated room occupied by an elderly Turkish man writhing in distress upon the bed, wearing naught but a Fez upon his head. This withered figure was identified as Mr. Matthew Pook, a University student under Professor Smith's care.

The Professor elaborated that sinister forces had inflicted Mr. Pook with some malevolent curse, aging the poor man tremendously in a matter of days. He implored his gathered companions to provide aid and stand vigil should any scoundrels return to further torment the ailing Turk.

During their investigation of the room and Mr. Pook's condition, several disconcerting discoveries were made. Of particular note, when Ms. Viola Suttcliffe gently grasped the Fez upon the man's head, she recoiled in terror after succumbing to a frightening spell.

As these caretakers conferred to determine their next course of action, Mr. Pook unexpectedly loosed a bone-chilling scream as the candles were abruptly snuffed out, leaving the group surrounded in darkness tinged with a lingering sense of dread.
